Law enforcement personnel and private investigators use portable X-ray units to gather forensic evidence such as bullet fragments embedded in various materials. The portable X-ray machine can be used to examine evidence on location with minimal disturbance or exfoliation. Penetrating ability is generally not a major consideration so the most common model for the forensics application is the XR200.

Fire and Arson: X-rays for use in Fire and Arson investigations (Non Destructive Testing - NDT)

Investigators use portable X-ray machines to examine debris and gather information that will help them determine the cause of the fire. Golden Engineering's battery powered X-ray machines are easy to maneuver so they can be used to examine objects that vary in size and shape. A portable X-ray machine also gives the investigator the ability to examine structural components that cannot be removed and taken to a lab. Objects examined in this application are typically made of low density materials making the XR200 the most suitable model.
